Six Saxon young talents are participating in the Federal Youth Research Competition
Six young talents from Saxony have emerged victorious in the state-level competition Jugend forscht, securing themselves a place in the national finals taking place from May 30th to June 2nd, 2024, in Heilbronn. The project presentations took place before an enthusiastic audience at DAS Environmental Expert GmbH in Dresden, where over 200 attendees were able to marvel at a total of 27 innovative research projects from both the state competitions Jugend forscht and Schüler experimentieren. Under this year’s motto “Mach Dir einen Kopf” (Get Your Head Around It), the participants proved not only their curiosity but also their ability to tackle complex problems and develop innovative solutions. From spinach as therapy for chronic wounds to the analysis of the working world through artificial intelligence, the range of topics was fascinating.
Our proud representatives in the national finals are:
- Ole Günther (17) from G.-E.-Lessing-Gymnasium in Hohenstein-Ernstthal in the field of Biology with the project “Excursion into the World of Fish Nutrition and Parasitism”
- Florian Reddel (18) from Sächsisches Landesgymnasium Sankt Afra zu Meißen in the field of Biology with the project “Development of a Tissue Prosthesis from Spinach for the Therapy of Chronic Wounds”
- Helena Krüger (18) from Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz in the field of Physics with the project “Investigation of the Dynamic Longitudinal Stability of Different Shuttlecock Models”
- Dan Vlad Himcinschi (18) from Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium Chemnitz in the field of Physics with the project “Construction of a Foucault Pendulum in the Staircase of Johannes-Kepler-Gymnasium”
- Joel Gerlach (19) from Landesschule Pforta in Naumburg in the field of Work Environment with the project “Clarification of Job Titles — How Can AIs Revolutionize the Working World?”
- Clara Bläser (17) from Sächsisches Landesgymnasium Sankt Afra zu Meißen in the field of Technology with the project “Implementation of Parametric Design in the Development of Shark-Skin Technology”. Clara also received the Audience Award “Community Champion”
These young minds have not only achieved victory at the state level but now also have the opportunity to present their ideas and research findings at the national level. The awards ceremony took place in the presence of the Saxon State Minister for Culture, Christian Piwarz, the Economic Mayor of Dresden, Jan Pratzka, as well as representatives from the Jugend forscht Foundation and the Saxon sponsoring companies.
We were delighted to host the competition this year at our headquarters in Dresden. Alongside our fellow sponsoring companies GlobalFoundries Dresden, BGH Edelstahlwerke GmbH, and Porsche Leipzig GmbH, it is an honor and pleasure for us to support these highly committed students in realizing their ideas and visions.
